Individualized Home Supports with Training in Minnesota
Practice everyday skills with support at home and in the community. Explore IHS with training in the Twin Cities for goals such as meals, budgeting, routines, and getting around.
What is Individualized Home Supports with Training?
IHS with training helps adults practice skills they want to develop, retain, or improve for everyday life. At Clemens Health, the starting point is a goal that matters to you. That might be preparing a familiar meal, keeping track of spending, or planning a trip to the library. A worker practices the steps with you, and your support team reviews how the approach is working. Progress can mean needing a different prompt, keeping an existing skill, or feeling more comfortable with a routine.

Compare the three IHS options
- IHS without training
- Assistance to use or maintain current skills during everyday activities.
- IHS with training
- Practice toward an adult's skill goals, with support during the activity.
- IHS with family training
- Training for the person and/or family when the person lives in the family's home.
Turn a laundry goal into a practice plan
A goal such as doing your own laundry can start with sorting one load, choosing a setting, and deciding when to move it to the dryer. You might prefer pictures to spoken instructions. A useful review asks which steps you completed, where help was needed, and whether the instructions made sense to you.
This is a planning example, not a client story or a promised outcome.

- What do you want to practice, and why does it matter to you?
- Would a picture guide, demonstration, or written list help?
- What would useful progress look like in your own words?
How to check service eligibility in Minnesota
IHS with training is an adult service under the BI, CAC, CADI, and DD waivers. It requires an assessed training need and an authorized plan. The person's living arrangement also matters. A case manager can help determine the appropriate IHS option.
